Braised Red Cabbage

Cabbage is sauteed and then simmered with wine and Strawberry Balsamic Sauce for a side dish perfect served with grilled sausages.

Ingredients

  • 3-4 slices Bacon, thick, chopped
  • 1/4 Yellow onion, diced
  • 1/2-3/4 head Red cabbage, cored, shredded
  • 1/2 cup Red wine
  • 1 jar Robert Rothschild Farm Strawberry Balsamic Sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Directions
    1. Cook bacon in a large saucepan until crisp. Remove bacon from pan and drain on a plate lined with paper towels.
    2. Drain 1/2 bacon fat from pan, then add diced onion to remaining bacon fat and sauté until well caramelized. Add cabbage and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Add wine and Strawberry Balsamic Sauce to cabbage and simmer for 15-20 minutes until cabbage is very tender. Season with salt and pepper.
    3. To serve, using a slotted spoon, place cabbage on plate alongside some spicy grilled sausages. Sprinkle with reserved bacon crumbles if desired.
